Belleville High School (BHS) is made up of approximately 280 9th through 12th grade students. For a small community (2430 residents) located 20 miles southwest of Madison, Belleville offers “big-school” opportunities. However, BHS does so in an extremely safe environment and a welcoming atmosphere that you would expect from a small town. This is one of the reasons it was voted one of Madison’s best suburbs.
Belleville High School offers 10 Advanced Placement courses and 16 dual-credit courses through either Madison College or Blackhawk Technical College. Our success rate in these courses has been tremendous. In 2017, BHS students took 136 Advanced Placement exams, passing 75.7% of these tests. This represents a 19-point spread over the national average of 56.41%?. With all juniors in the state now taking the ACT, Belleville students scored an average of 22.7 in 2017- more than two full points above the state average. Our graduation rate approaches 100%, and 73% of our graduates enroll at a post-secondary institution (60% at a 4-year university and 13% at a 2-year college or technical school).
Our A/B block schedule (alternating days, with five 80-minute periods each day) offers tremendous flexibility. We currently offer 104 different courses. We can also accommodate individual student requests with additional online courses. Belleville High School is a 1:1 school, and all students are assigned a Chromebook that they can utilize both at school and at home. For students who struggle, Belleville High School offers both reading and math interventions. In addition, our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program (PBIS) provides a check-in/check-out system for students who need more support, while continuing to recognize students who consistently demonstrate the positive Wildcat Way.
Our re-designed STEM offerings now include five Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses- Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Computer Science, Engineering Design & Development, Principles of Engineering, and Introduction to Engineering Design. Eleven BHS graduates earned college credit from a PLTW course in 2018. For students seeking to apply their skills to a specific field, 11 students participated in seven different pathways through Youth Apprenticeship. Twelve more students took part in our Work Experience program, while two others were entered into a CTE Independent Study. This created 20 business partnerships within Belleville and Dane and Green counties for the 2017-18 school year.
One of the greatest benefits of attending a small school is the opportunity to participate on championship sports teams like our Wildcat football team and our Sugar River Raider Soccer and Track & Field teams, as well as in our award-winning extracurricular organizations (thirteen scores of “1” at State Solo & Ensemble for our Band and Choir programs, nine gold medals at the state Forensics meet, and a three-time state-qualifying Science Olympiad team). All are gladly accepted!
Welcome to Belleville High School- named a Silver Medal winner by U.S. News & World Report as one of the state’s best high schools. It’s always a great day to be a Wildcat!
Email from a parent about the Belleville community
“There is something about this area, perhaps you already know it, but for us it's new. People wave when I walk or drive by them, I feel a true sense of community here. Kids are friendly and interact well with adults (I can't tell you how many times kids have walked up to me at the park when I'm there with my basketball, and a few moments later we're all playing.) Now that we've been here for a short while, we know it was the right decision.”
