If schools are closed for the day, an announcement will be made on the district website.
Snowstorms, sleet, ice, fog and below zero temperatures can cause us to delay school or send students home early. The following information provides an overview of our district’s guidelines when inclement weather happens.

How do I sign up for text message notifications?
You can sign up for text message notifications through Family Access. Click Skylert on the left and be sure to put your cell number in the Text Message Numbers section at the bottom. You will need a Family Access login and password for this. If you do not have your information, please contact one of the school offices (608) 835-6120).
How does the District make the decision to close schools?
The decision to operate or close school is based on weather conditions within the school district boundaries and local road reports. The Superintendent consults with the Transportation Director and other area Superintendents before making a decision.
When is school closed for frigid temperatures?
Schools are closed when actual air temperatures are 25 degrees below zero or windchill factors are 35 degrees below zero.
Are students ever released early?
If conditions change rapidly and the district determines it necessary to release students early, parents will receive a text message and/or email notifying them. The information will also be posted on the web site and shared with media stations.
What if the dismissal is near the lunch hour?
If early dismissal occurs during the day, we will make every effort to provide lunch for students.
Are all events cancelled if school is closed?
If school is cancelled or dismissed early due to inclement weather, the general practice is to cancel all athletic and extra-curricular events, and all buildings will be closed.
Is the school day ever delayed?
Yes. An alternative to closing school is a 2-hour delay. If a 2-hour delay is implemented, school will begin two (2) hours late with all students reporting for classes at 10:00 a.m. Early Childhood and morning 4K classes will not report to school. Afternoon 4K students will have school as normal.
What are the cold weather guidelines when school is in session?
When the air and/or wind chill temperature is 0 degrees Fahrenheit or colder, all students shall be permitted to enter the building upon arrival to school and will be kept indoors during recess periods in grades K-8.
What if school is not closed and I think it is too dangerous to send my child(ren) to school?
Ultimately, the decision to not send children to school rests with the parent or guardian. Students kept home due to this parental decision will be excused. Please contact the school your child attends to let them know your child will be absent that day.
