About Our School

Belleville High School (BHS) is made up of approximately 270 9th through 12th grade students.  For a small community (2386 residents) located 20 miles southwest of Madison, Belleville offers “big-school” opportunities.  However, BHS does so in an extremely safe environment and a welcoming atmosphere that you would expect from a small town. This is one of the reasons it was voted one of Madison’s best suburbs (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88429429/Belleville%20online.pdf).

Belleville High School offers nine Advanced Placement courses and 12 dual-credit courses through either Madison College and Blackhawk Technical  College.  Our success rate in these course has been tremendous.  One hundred eight college credits were earned by BHS students through dual credit courses last year.  For 2015, 53 students took a total of 101  Advanced Placement exams, scoring a 3 or higher on 64 exams (for college credit). The School District of Belleville earned a place on the 5th Annual Advanced Placement® Honor Roll by increasing access to AP courses while maintaining or improving the rate at which students earn qualifying scores.  Belleville was one of only 27 school districts in the state to earn a place on the honor roll.  In addition, Belleville students scored an average of 23.9 on the ACT this past year.  Our graduation rate stands at 96.6%, and 90% of our seniors plan to enroll at a post-secondary institution (56% at a 4-year university and 34% at a 2-year college or technical school).

Our new A/B block schedule (alternating days, with 5- 80 minute periods each day) offers tremendous flexibility.  We currently offer 99 different courses.  We can also accommodate individual student requests with additional online courses.  For students who struggle, Belleville High School offers both reading and math interventions.  Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Program (PBIS) also provides a check-in/check-out system for students who need more support, while continuing to recognize students who consistently demonstrate the positive Wildcat Way.

Our re-designed Technology Education Department has introduced Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses.  We currently offer Introduction to Engineering Design and will be offering Principles of Engineering next year, along with two additional PLTW courses by 2017-18.  In addition, Belleville High School is now a 1:1 school, and all students are assigned a Chromebook that they can utilize both at school and at home.

One of the greatest benefits of attending a small school is the opportunity to participate in championship sports teams like our Sugar River Raider Soccer and Track & Field teams and award-winning extracurricular organizations (2014 Conference Academic Bowl Champions, the State Excellence in Speech Award for Forensics, and “1” ratings at the Large Group Festivals for both Band and Choir). All are welcome!  New this year is a Science Olympiad team competing for the first time.

Welcome to Belleville where we “Discover, Engage, and Achieve.” It’s always a great day to be a Wildcat!

E-mail from a student about our Welcome Back on the first day of school

I just wanted to let you know that I loved the tailgate this morning! I don't know if you got feedback, but I wanted to make sure you knew that it was really cool! I put it on Snapchat and my friends from others schools were all super jealous and thought that was the coolest thing! And the food and games were really nice (I love food).
