Asthma is a lung disease. It is characterized by varying degrees of inflammation, constriction and sensitivity of the airways. Airways swell on the inside and constrict from the outside. This blocks the flow of air through the airways. Inflamed tissues make thick mucus, further blocking the airways. Asthma can be very different from one person to another and from one episode (attack) to another. For some asthma causes only mild symptoms once in a awhile For others, everyday can be a struggle to breath. Some asthma attacks last only a few minutes, others can go on for days
