Hello, my name is Teresa Gartley. This year marks my 25th year as an educator! I graduated from UW-Madison with a B.S. in Family Consumer Education in 1988 and M.S. degree from Concordia University in Educational Administration in 2010. In addition to student teaching in Madison Schools I completed a summer internship as a 4H & Youth Agent. I was lucky to start my teaching career in my home town, Lodi. It was there that I implemented work based learning simulations and realized my passion for expanding the traditional classroom to expose students to career options and transferable skills. I taught at Madison East High School and Watertown Unified School Districts before accepting the position for Belleville Schools.

I have stayed in Belleville for 18 years because I believe the benefits are numerous teaching students and working with families or community members in a smaller school. Career and Technical Education courses continue to evolve with technology and the needs families and society. I enjoy updating my courses to reflect the needs of the time. My department offers the following courses: Personal Finance and Careers ( required course), Medical Terminology and Health Careers Exploration ( both dual credit courses from Madison College), Culinary Arts I and II, Hospitality and Tourism, Child and Family Studies, and Living on Your Own 101.

Other roles I am excited about include building our work based learning programs as the districts School to Career Coordinator. Currently we offer students Youth Apprenticeships through the Department of Workforce Development, general monitored work experience, and job shadows in career pathways of interest. I serve as a PBIS coach and new teacher mentor, in addition to other school improvement and curriculum initiatives.

I am always looking for guest speakers, field trip options for my courses and now job site placements for students. I encourage you to contact me so we can discuss your ideas.

It is a great day to be a Wildcat!!smiley
