Union Casualties at Gettysburg
The battle of Gettysburg started on July 1,1863. A Confederate Brigade, located in the
small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania were searching for a supply of shoes and ran into
Union cavalry. This is how The Battle of Gettysburg began. After three days, both sides
had suffered massive losses of men. The Union forces claimed victory and The Battle of
Gettysburg was finally over.
This photograph shows that the retreating Confederate troops took the shoes of
the Union dead.
